If a Person Has a Revocable Living Trust What Happens When They Die How Long Does it Take to Settle the Estate?


When a person dies that has a living trust, the trust becomes irrevocable and the trustee is empowered to follow the instructions in the trust. It can take several months, if not longer, to administer the estate, depending on the value of the assets and whether there are estate tax returns that need to be filed.
